A Guide To Different Types Of Braces You Can Get In Dubai

The UAE is home to one of the smartest cities in the world—Dubai. The city has become a home for the latest advancements in dental technology, particularly teeth straightening. There are different kinds of Orthodontic treatment available for anyone wanting to achieve not just a beautiful smile but better dental health as well.

Dental braces are orthodontic devices used for straightening treatment. It can come in many forms. There are also dental appliances that can be used in combination with braces to assist in shaping teeth bite and jaw alignment.

Basically, braces apply pressure to the teeth to catalyze its movement to the desired position, which ultimately straightens the teeth and fixes the bite. Because of the application of pressure to the teeth, it loosens, and gives way to the formation of new bones to support its new position—this is called bone remodeling. Orthodontic treatments are lifetime commitments; that’s why retainers are important after wearing braces.

Let us take a closer look at the different types of braces in Dubai that you can get.

The Classic Metallic Braces

This is the traditional and most common type of braces. Metal braces are made up of metal brackets, elastic bands, wire and an adhesive that is strengthened and bonded using ultraviolet light. Metallic braces move the teeth faster than clear aligners since there is constant pressure on the teeth, unlike aligners that are removable.

Yet, metallic braces need a lot more maintenance and are very visible. There are different bands that could be placed on the brackets to make it more appealing. Metal braces may be uncomfortable for other people since brackets tend to be abrasive inside the mouth.

Ceramic Braces

Although ceramic braces are relatively more expensive than metal braces, it’s a clear alternative for patients looking for less noticeable braces that also work fast in straitening the teeth. As the name implies, ceramic braces are used instead of metallic ones; the wiring could also be matched with the teeth color to further make it unnoticeable.

However, ceramic braces may not work for everyone, especially when it comes to using dental appliances such as elastic bands to help in aligning the jaw. Also, it tends to stain a lot easier than metallic braces.

Lingual/Incognito Braces

Lingual braces, as the name suggest are metallic braces placed inside or behind the teeth. This was patented by Dr. Craven Kurz, a celebrity dentist in the 70s. Lingual braces are virtually invisible when people smile.

It is as effective as traditional braces and is as fast in straightening the teeth as well. Some things that discourage patients from choosing lingual braces are its high price range( more expensive than ceramic and traditional metallic braces) and the discomfort that some patients experience. Because of this, ceramic lingual braces are also made available.

Clear Aligners/ Invisalign

Aligners are one of the newest Orthodontic innovations in teeth straightening treatments. These are made through the patient’s teeth impression and worn for 22 hours every day. Aligners are a convenient alternative to other braces. Technically, aligners should not be considered as braces, but it has been marketed as an invisible and much comfortable type of brace.

Over time, there are improvements to aligners. The only downside to aligners is that it may take a slightly longer time to straighten teeth compared to wired and metallic ones. However, it is aesthetically pleasing and virtually unnoticeable. It may be much expensive than other types of teeth-straightening treatments, but it’s still as effective. There also other brands in the market that are affordable.

Several Dental clinics in Dubai offer these kinds of braces. Ultimately, it always depends on the patient’s preferences and needs. However, it is advised to consult your Orthodontist to get the best treatment for you.
