5 Frequently Asked Questions About Veneers

Porcelain veneers have indeed become a popular fool-proof cosmetic dental procedure for improving the aesthetic appearance of your smile with lasting results. As with any procedure you would consider getting, first-timers will always have a few questions. To address any concerns you may have, here we answer five frequently asked questions about porcelain veneers

  • Are They Permanent?

Porcelain veneers are semi-permanent and can last between 10-15 years. As with any cosmetic dental procedure, you will have to maintain your veneers with regular oral care, like brushing and flossing. Consider a good hygiene routine, address any teeth grinding issues, use mouthguards when playing sports and avoid using the teeth as a tool to open things. The more disciplined and consistent you are in taking care of your veneers, the more they can last before needing a replacement.

  • Am I A Good Candidate For Porcelain Veneers?

Veneers are ideal for you if you have chips and cracks in the teeth, tooth discolourations, and stubborn stains. Some also refer to veneers as “instant orthodontics”, as with the proper technique, veneers can also correct gaps, spacing and size issues in your teeth. However, you should be in good dental health to get them. If you’re using Invisalign aligners or dental implants, you still can get veneers done.

  • How Many Veneers Do I Need?

This varies from person to person, depending on the condition of your teeth and the overall aesthetic look you want from the procedure. For minor cosmetic issues, you will only need a couple of veneers. For a complete procedure, you can get them on all of your teeth. Many get their veneers for what they call the social six- these are the teeth that people can see when you smile. For those who have a broad smile, it can go up to the top eight teeth. Depending on the structure of your teeth and goals, your dentists will recommend the best option for you.

  • How Long Does The Procedure Take?

This varies according to different clinics. Generally, it takes a minimum of 3 weeks to a maximum of 4 weeks to complete the treatment. However, you will only spend a few hours with the dentists; the other time is taken to prepare your veneers.

Our simple procedure starts with an initial consultation. This is where the dentists will ask your expectations from the treatment and conduct tests to create a customized plan for you.

Once you are happy with the treatment plan, a trial smile will be shown to you using advanced computer programs. Once you’re happy with the trial smile, your plan is sent to the lab to make customized veneers. This would take 2-3 weeks. Our internationally-renowned doctors will work closely with you to customize its size, shape and colour according to the plan and what you expect.

When the veneers arrive from the lab, your dentist will schedule an appointment to apply your veneers. The actual veneer application process will only take a couple of hours, and then you can walk away with instant, natural-looking and long-lasting results.

  • Do Porcelain Veneers Stain?

No, they don’t. One of the main benefits of getting veneers is that they don’t stain. This means that you can drink or eat anything you want without worrying about a yellow smile. However, your teeth underneath the veneers can stain. So for that, you will have to follow regular oral care.
